A new report from Bain & Company, “Educated but Underprepared: Closing the Career Readiness Gap,” reinforces what many educators and employers already see. Students are completing K–12 and even postsecondary programs without the skills, awareness, or confidence needed for today’s workforce. Employers report that most new hires are missing essential competencies. Students want more relevance and guidance long before graduation. States are investing significantly in CTE and pathways, yet many still lack the connected systems required to make career readiness real for every learner.
The message is clear. Preparing young people for high-demand careers requires a coordinated approach that links education, workforce needs, and community opportunity.
